Motion

Alma is all about progress : getting
people and commerce going. And
our motion is no different. So let’s
get moving.

Motion principle

Our motion work is a celebration of The Beat of Better. Everything we create reflects a physical beat. We start with a hit of motion at peak velocity, then steadily slow down… until the next hit.

Technicals

We use 30fps or more to maintain clear and visible motion.

Do’s

Do: Use consistent speed and easing

Animated beat lines should have consistent motion. Use similar easing and speed for a cohesive outcome.

Do: Ease out lines that end in frame

Beats lose energy as they radiate from their starting point. They come to a slow, considered stop when finishing in frame.

Do: Push out lines when looping

With looped animations that finish on screen, the outermost beat is typically pushed away to avoid distraction.

Do: Use the image as a mask with photography

With the final beat line leaving an outline around the image.

How to

Setup: Start by animating beat lines with linear motion. Using linear motion first means that any easing doesn’t affect the spacing between lines.

Continue: Using a (loopOut(“continue”) expression we can continue the motion to animate out, while maintaining control over The Beat line layout and spacing.

Remap: Pre compose the animation and apply a time remap for the desired motion. Beat lines should start with their peak velocity, and come to an eased stop when finishing on screen.

Loop: Remap the rest of the animation and loop the layer. Lines that loop on screen should be pushed out by the incoming beat.
